How it works. The PDF page size equals your trim size; with bleed it is 0.125" wider and 0.25" taller, as KDP requires (72 points = 1 inch). KDP's minimum inside (gutter) margin grows with page count: 24–150 pages 0.375", 151–300 0.5", 301–500 0.625", 501–700 0.75", 701–828 0.875". The outside, top and bottom minimum is 0.25" without bleed and 0.375" with bleed. Auto mode adds 0.125" to each for safety. Odd pages are right-hand pages, so the gutter alternates sides. Page numbers and the "Date" label are drawn as vector strokes, so the PDF contains no fonts that need embedding. Paperbacks need at least 24 pages; the maximum depends on trim size and paper (for example 828 for 6" × 9" on white paper, 590 for 8.5" × 11").
